School Refuses To Accept Gift Of “Racist” Dr. Seuss Books From Melania Trump

It seems like every day now Liberals inform us of the offensive or problematic qualities of another otherwise seemingly benign bit of entertainment. While normally this bit of daily mass hysteria isn’t even worth mentioning, when it’s a multi-generational childhood icon being targeted, things are a bit different. If you were born in the United States there is a reasonable chance you have read or at least been exposed to the works of Dr. Seuss at some point. Did you know though, that his children books are actually “steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes?” At least according to a librarian at the Cambridgeport School who refused to accept a collection of Seuss books being offered up by First Lady Melania Trump.

Librarian Liz Phipps Soeiro Holding Letter From The First Lady

While acknowledging the students were excited to see the official White House letter from the Melania, which you can see here. Head librarian Liz Soeiro decided to reject the books so kindly offered. Instead opting to write this rather insulting response back to the First Lady, more or less calling her racist at worst, and simply accusing her of having poor taste in children’s literature at best. Some choice quotes from the letter follow below.

“My school doesn’t have a NEED for these books. Why not go out of your way to gift books to underfunded and underprivileged communities that continue to be marginalized and maligned by policies put in place by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos?”

“You may not be aware of this, but Dr. Seuss is a bit of a cliché, a tired and worn ambassador for children’s literature.”

“Another fact that many people are unaware of is that Dr. Seuss’s illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes. Open one of his books and you’ll see the racist mockery in his art.”

“Even so, we still struggle to close the achievement gap, retain teachers of color, and dismantle the systemic white supremacy in our institution.”

The Librarian whose official self-written bio lists her as being an advocate for inclusive libraries and active in her community to create spaces that are welcoming to all students.” Even goes so far as to insult Melania by recommending she read this book, Was the Cat in the Hat Black? The Hidden Racism of Children’s Literature, and the Need for Diverse Books, by author Philip Nel. An author who wrote earlier this year a scathing take down of her Husband which advocates the overthrowing of his race-baiting, Muslim-banning, pussy-grabbing, narcissistic sociopath regime.

While it is true that during World War 2, Dr. Seuss did draw many racially based propaganda cartoons for adults. That does not meet his children’s books are somehow less valid or inherently racist. For decades they have served as one of the most effective tools possible in terms of getting young kids reading, along with serving as a connecting bond between parent and child. As most parents these days grew up with his works themselves.

This is just another example of the slow Social Justice Warrior efforts to erase all our common American history and culture. Tearing down statues might be the flashier more obvious example, but coming after things like Dr. Seuss in the library may be in fact the more sinister effective piece of thought control being pushed on our kids. Just like with our TV and film, soon we may be left with a Library where only left leaning works are allowed. The Regressive Left seemingly un-ironically in its pursuit of Politically Correct censorship, continuing to mimic tactics of some of the most oppressive regimes of all time.

In a final display of arrogance Ms. Soeiro ends her letter by thanking the First Lady for her kind gift and then immediately insulting her again. All this before offering up her own selection of ten “better” books, and taking one final shot at Melania’s husband. “I am honored that you recognized my students and our school. I can think of no better gift for children than books; it was a wonderful gesture, if one that could have been better thought out. In return, I’m attaching a list of ten books (it’s the librarian in me) that I hope will offer you a window into the lives of the many children affected by the policies of your husband’s administration.”

In an almost uplifting bit of reasonableness however, the actual Cambridge school system has since now intervened in the issue. Releasing a statement stating that the librarian, “was not authorized to accept or reject donated books on behalf of the school or school district. We have counseled the employee on all relevant policies, including the policy against public resources being used for political purposes.” While it is unclear at this point what will actually happen to the books in question, it’s nice to see someone in authority did at least question this latest attempt at Liberal virtue signaling.

The real question becomes whether the actual issue for this Social Justice crusading librarian, was the author, or the sender? Had the gift for example come from the White House of avowed Dr. Seuss fan former President Obama, would the same letter have been written? Obama certainly seemed to disagree about the problematic nature of his works calling the writer, “one of America’s revered wordsmiths, who used his incredible talent to instill in his most impressionable readers universal values we all hold dear.” Obama even made March 2nd, the author’s birthday, National Read Across America Day.

Once again modern Trump era Liberals seem determined to take things far beyond even what the former President advocated, in their never ending quest to make the world one giant “progressive” safe space. At the end of the day though, this is still a children’s librarian denying her kids new books for clearly political reasons, and that should be viewed as a sad thing by anyone with a heart.
