Love him or hate him, at some point, President Donald Trump has probably done at least one thing you don’t agree with. Many Americans today are in disagreement with Trump over a few of his latest tweets concerning Russia. Since the start of his campaign, he had voters believing that he would make amends with Russia. People supported this to the max. Why? Because the cold war has been over for decades. But today Trump tweeted several statements that contradict his campaign promises.
“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”
“Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?”
Trump tried to bounce back by blaming Democrats for “the bad blood between the U.S and Russia,” but many supporters were still either confused or angered by his previous statements and didn’t want to hear any explanations.
“Much of the bad blood with Russia is caused by the Fake & Corrupt Russia Investigation, headed up by the all-Democrat loyalists, or people that worked for Obama. Mueller is most conflicted of all (except Rosenstein who signed FISA & Comey letter). No Collusion, so they go crazy!”
These negative statements about Russia greatly contradict the positive approach he’d taken in 2015 and 2016. During a trip to his golf resort in Scotland, Trump said he thought he’d get along well with Putin:
“I think I’d get along very well with Vladimir Putin, I just think so. “People say ‘what do you mean?’ I think I’d get along well with him.”
Trump also said Putin “hates Obama and Obama hates him, we have unbelievably bad relationships.” He vowed to change that. Now supporters are left wondering if Trump still wants to repair relationships with Russia, or if he’s low-key declaring war. Trump would need to bring an official declaration of war before Congress, and if they have any ounce of sanity they won’t go for it. Nobody wants war with Russia.
This may be just another instance where the president just wants to blow off steam on Twitter, but then again, these are the president’s words. Recently, Trump supporters have also been vocal about not supporting a U.S strike on Syria, so with Trump also condemning Russia, this seems like a double blow to most voters. One Trump supporter commented on Twitter,
“Who got to you? WTF you know Russia didn’t do this!!!! You are starting WWIII if you continue with the deep state and Israels folly of warmongering and genocide. So to appease deep state you’ll kill note ppl like BUSH and Hussian! You promised to end all war!!!!! You promised!!!”
And that ladies and gentlemen, is the big question of the day. Who? Who influenced Trump in such a powerful manner that he literally flip-flopped? He went from wanting to be Putin’s friend, to basically declaring war on him. Things are looking bleak for the president, as more and more people are beginning to lose trust in him.
